Douglas Adams: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (1980)

“Who can possibly rule if no one who wants to do it can be allowed to?”

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe měl ale pár momentů, které byly super.

“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is there, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another which states that this has already happened.”

“In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”

“Zaphod moved forward to it, slowly, like a man possessed–or more accurately like a man who wanted to possess.”

“Why should I want to make anything up? Life’s bad enough as it is without wanting to invent any more of it.”

“Number Two’s eyes narrowed and became […] cold slits, the idea presumably being to give your opponent the impression that you have lost your glasses or are having difficulty keeping awake. Why this is frightening is an, as yet, unresolved problem.”

“In an infinite Universe anything can happen,” said Ford. “Even survival. Strange but true.”

“History is never altered you see, it just fits together like a jigsaw.”

“Totally mad,” he said, “utter nonsense. But we’ll do it because it’s brilliant nonsense.”
